Madeleine West has revealed her unexpected joy after announcing she is pregnant with her seventh child

The former Neighbours star, 45, who shares six children with her ex-partner, chef Shannon Bennett, said it was a welcome “surprise package”.

She posted the news to Instagram on Tuesday morning along with a picture of her growing belly.

“WHOOPS! Thought it was #perimenopause. I thought WRONG!’’ she wrote.

“It’s not too much Christmas pudding either. And I couldn’t be happier.

“Not too sure about the title “Geriatric mum” but here we are, and I’m winding back a little to grow this little surprise package I’ve dubbed. (Baby number 7, couldn’t help myself).”

West, who has been privately dating environmentalist Maximo Bottaro for more than four years and living in Byron Bay, asked her followers for help in tackling parenthood later in life.

Her eldest child with Bennett is nearly 20, and the youngest who are twins, are 10.

“I don’t have much more to say right now, but I’ve noticed I don’t hear much about older parents. l know you must be out there. Just seems we are invisible,’’ West added.

“So if you’re expecting later than expected, and tackling early #parenthood in your 40s or 50s, I’d LOVE hear your stories. I’d love any tips you care to share. Like how the heck do you get all the #baby paraphernalia together again after you’ve given it all away????

“There’s a terrifying new world of contraptions out there and I don’t know where to start!! HELP!!!”

West and Bennett split in 2018 after 13 years together.

He is now dating Erica Packer, who shares three children with her former husband, billionaire James Packer.
