There’s a big battle set to play out between five teams to secure a finals spot in the BPCA’s top tier with just two rounds to play.

Although Armstrong Creek, Anglesea and defending champions Barwon Heads have sewn up spots in the top four, the remaining five teams are jostling for fourth place with just nine points separating Barrabool in fourth and Ocean Grove in last position.

It will be tough assignments for Jan Juc, Drysdale and the Bulls this Saturday who face the Roos, Seagulls and Titans respectively away from home.

Which may open the door for either Ocean Grove or Queenscliff in sixth position who meet on Saturday at Ray Menzies Oval.

The Coutas have rediscovered their touch over the past three rounds, with successive wins over Barrabool and the Grubbers in a three-run thriller and pushing the Titans last Saturday.

Armstrong Creek has jumped to first place on the table after winning its last seven matches.

Meanwhile, in A2, fifth-placed Surf Coast will be looking to pinch a top four spot off either Portarlington or Collendina when it faces Inverleigh on Saturday at Polwarth Oval.

The Cobras, who have won their past four in a row, will be out to inflict its second defeat of ladder leaders Wallington in less than a month.

From an individual perspective, Armstrong Creek’s Clay Mulgrew maintained his place at the top of the batting aggregate across all BPCA grades with 693 runs at an average of 69.3 including three tons.

However, Wallington’s Damien Biemans has hit the most centuries this year with four in C1 and is only 52 runs behind Mulgrew in the aggregate.

With the ball, St Leonards’ James Burns leads all comers with 33 wickets at 12.94, six poles ahead of Collendina Stan Grazotis.

Meanwhile, Anglesea’s Michael Thornton has not only taken the most wickets in A1 – 22 at 8.73 – but hit the most sixes across all grades with 23.

Barrabool’s Michael Kelson has struck 74 boundaries, the most across all BPCA grades.
