A court is awaiting the phone records of a former NAAJA employee who is accused of assisting an escaped parolee’s bid for freedom.
Samantha Alampi, 36, was arrested in November last year after allegedly assisting a parolee – who’d previously been sentenced for manslaughter – after he cut off his ankle monitor in 2024.
Her matter was back before the Alice Springs Local Court on Thursday for a preliminary examination mention.
She has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice, obstructing an officer of the court, and hindering a member of the police force.
Ms Alampi is currently out on bail, and was excused from attending her mention if legally represented.
Defence lawyer Greg Betts represented her on Thursday, where he said there was still outstanding material to be disclosed to the defence.
Prosecutor Bridgette Le Comte said prosecution was awaiting materials from the officer in charge of the investigation “in relation to an interrogation of her phone that’s been seized”.
Mr Betts sought an adjournment, which was granted by Judge Sarah McNamara.
If found guilty of her charges, Ms Alampi could spend up to 14 years behind bars.
A plea was not entered at her latest mention.
Prior to being charged, Ms Alampi held roles in the Alice Springs Local Court and NAAJA.
Ms Alampi is no longer employed by NAAJA, or the courts.
Her matter will be back before a judge on June 19.
Ms Alampi is excused from attending if legally represented.
She was arrested alongside the 20-year-old escapee, who was sentenced for manslaughter when he was aged 16.
Last year, the man was ordered to “serve the balance” of his four month non-parole period.
