Emergency services called to Eastern View motorcycle crash

Rescue teams were able to safely remove a motorcyclist from an embankment after a scary situation on the Great Ocean Road.

A motorcyclist has survived a terrifying ordeal that saw him fall down an embankment on a popular tourist road triggering a major rescue operation.

Emergency services were called to the Great Ocean Road in Eastern View near Lorne about 7.20pm on Thursday night following reports a motorcyclist had fallen down an embankment on the Geelong bound side.

According to Victoria Police, the 57-year-old man lost control of his vehicle and careered down an embankment.

At least 12 vehicles responded to the incident, including State Emergency Service (SES) crews from Torquay and Lorne.

Fire Rescue Victoria assisted to winch the man to the roadside before he was transported to hospital with minor lower body injuries.

Police confirmed they were investigating the incident, which occured at a horseshoe bend in the road near St Bernard’s College’s Santa Monica Campus.

Eastern View is a locality between Aireys Inlet and Lorne with a population of just 35.

The Great Ocean Road has seen a number of serious incidents in recent years.

In January, two passengers were killed on the Great Ocean Road near Princetown in a horror head on collision.

Earlier that month, a serious collision on the Wye River side of Lorne also closed the iconic tourist road for an extended amount of time.

In October 2023, Corio man Blake Laity died after he was involved in a head on collision on the Great Ocean Road in Anglesea that left another person in hospital.
