It is a good time to be in your 60s, says Elle Macpherson.
No longer identifying as ‘The Body’, the veteran Aussie supermodel is still modelling while also embracing this chapter of life.
“I’ve never felt more free and alive as I do now at 62 – being in my 60s has been a transition from being The Body to embodying something far more meaningful: greater purpose,” Macpherson said.
“I’m learning how to be of service to a wider world, in my own ways. I’m writing, living with new freedom, grounded in purpose. Aligning my deepest values with how I speak, act, and move through life. This is my most vibrant decade — the life in my years, not the years in my life.”
Macpherson’s comments come as she unveils her latest modelling campaign, fronting the new spring summer collection for Jodhi Meares’ label, The Upside.
She shot with Simon Upton in Miami, the former Sydney models United States base.
“I’m a big believer that our uniqueness is our superpower and bringing that unique beauty and spirit into the world is vital – especially today when we are flooded with sameness and safeness,” she said.
“I love the warmth and ease and flow of Miami — it’s relaxed and easygoing. It’s full summer now and the days are long and hot and humid with tropical rainstorms throughout the day. It reminds me of Oz – and it’s home – where my kids live and where my heart is when I’m not in Australia (because Australia is always home).”
Macpherson added that she is “most comfortable by the sea and in warm weather”.
Victoria’s Secret Angel Candice Swanepoel is the only other celebrity model to have fronted a campaign for the brand.
Meares founded the luxury activewear brand in 2014 with the label quickly becoming a celebrity favourite.
“Shooting with an Australian icon like Elle is an absolute dream for us,” Meares said.
“Elle epitomises both inner and outer beauty, reflecting our shared passion for the ocean, the outdoors and an inherent authenticity around looking and feeling well. Elle is and has always been one of my favourite models. My 15-year old self, who had Elle’s (model) comp card on my wall, would be over the moon.”
