A driver is on the run after smashing a car into a house in Sydney, causing significant structural damage to the property.
Police were called Coll Pl in St Andrews, in Sydney’s southwest, about 2.10am on Saturday following reports a car had crashed into a house.
A NSW Police spokesman said there were no injuries but the property had been badly damaged.
Two vehicles were also damaged in the crash.
“The driver of the vehicle is believed to have left the scene prior to the arrival of police,” a spokesman said.
Neighbour Vir Chand heard a huge bang in the early hours of Saturday and went outside with his son to find out what happened.
Mr Chand initially thought something had fallen outside, but was shocked to see a car through his neighbour’s property had destroyed structural beams at the front of the home and damaged the roof.
He said the driver fled straightaway and was nowhere to be seen following the crash.
“It was a big accident,” he said.
“The family were asleep inside then the police arrived within a few minutes.
“The family came out and they were all very nervous, very nervous - if you are sleeping and something like that happens you get the shock of your life.”
Mr Chand said his neighbours were a “lovely” family with young children and it was heartbreaking to see the destruction caused to their home.
“They took the children away straightaway so they wouldn’t be confronted with the scenes,” he said.”
The search for the driver involved continues.
