Darwin will be awash in purple on Saturday, March 8, as the International Women’s Day Walk and Celebrations take over Civic Park.
The annual event brings together the community to recognise the achievements of women past, present, and future while advocating for gender equality.
It kicks off at 8:30am in the Civic Centre courtyard with a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony, as well as other entertainment and giveaways.
The signature walk through Darwin’s streets, led by the Darwin City Brass Band, starts at 9:00am and will be joined by roving performers and special guests.
Participants can choose between a long or short walking route, allowing for people of a range of ages and abilities to take part.
Civic Park will then host a morning of entertainment, information stalls, a community BBQ, food trucks, and family-friendly activities, including the City of Darwin Fun Bus.
A Power and Water trailer will be available for refilling water bottles.
The event is fully accessible, with an Auslan interpreter also present for speeches.
Free bus travel on the Darwin network will be available.
Participants are encouraged to wear purple, bring banners, and embrace the spirit of International Women’s Day.
