A Malak mother with a history of harming cops has had her bail application rejected after fresh accusations she assaulted police in the line of duty.

On Friday morning, Amina Ali Mohamed faced Darwin Local Court charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting police in the execution of their duty, and hindering an officer.

Supported by loved ones in the courtroom, Ms Mohamed, 47, tuned in from a cell via video link.

At the start of the proceeding, Judge Stephen Geary put a question straight to the defence.

“Why should I put police officers at risk?”

Ms Mohamed’s lawyer said the matter was “very unusual” and proceeded to shed light on his client’s background.

Born in Somalia, Ms Mohamed suffered from trauma, the court heard, with the accused also receiving “ongoing treatment” for health issues.

The alleged facts were not read to the court, however it was heard Ms Mohamed had been in custody since April 22.

The prosecution said the presumption was against bail.

Judge Geary noted Ms Mohamed had previously breached bail orders, as well as having a violent history with police officers.

“(She) has a history of assaulting police officers.”

Judge Geary denied bail, telling Ms Mohamed he doesn’t have “a high degree of confidence” in releasing her back into the community.

Ms Mohamed will return to court on July 7.
