A chocolate egg hunt, a bunny-themed beach party, and live music will rock this weekend for families looking for an energetic Easter experience.
The Darwin Waterfront has organised three days of events with thousands expected to pack out its lawns.
Yasmine Welsh of Darwin Waterfront Corporation said an abundance of kids’ activities were lined up for the whole family to enjoy.
“There will be lots of entertainment – bouncy castles, face painting, and a bunny disco,” she said.
“We’re encouraging people to come down and if you’re not keen to sit in and dine at one of your favourite restaurants here, grab takeaway from one them and enjoy the live music!”
Ms Welsh confirmed the Easter Eggstravaganza – which runs from 9am to 1pm on Saturday – would have a treasure hunt feel to it.
“It’s not your usual ‘hide and find the eggs’ game because obviously being quite hot in Darwin it’s hard to put the chocolate out in the open,” she said.
“So we’ll be handing out maps and the kids will go to several spots across the Waterfront and collect their eggs on the way.”
On Monday, from 10am to 1pm, the kids beach party will take over the area with big shaded areas set up as the wave lagoon remains open over the entire weekend.
“There’s lot of things to do for families, both paid and free experiences”.
With more than 3500 attendees at last year’s event, Ms Welsh said the big weekend was worth preparing for.
“We recommend making a day of the weekend – if you’re travelling in from Palmerston or out of town, bring a picnic blanket and set up for the day,” she said.
“Swimming will be available, so bring a hat, bring a bottle and we also have a new changing facility which is awesome.”
Will restaurants be prepared?
“A number of our businesses underwent airconditioning upgrades so they’re pretty much all reopen now so we highly recommend people come down and enjoy it.”
Live music will be play on the lawns Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 5pm to 9pm.
