A woman has been hospitalised and another taken into custody over an alleged assault near a petrol station in Edmonton.

A woman in her 30s been taken into custody over the alleged stabbing of a woman in her 20s at an Edmonton petrol station on Wednesday.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the woman, 25, presented to the service station with a 5cm wound to her abdomen, and was transported to hospital in a serious condition.

“At approximately 4.30pm emergency services were called to the Bruce Highway at Edmonton, to reports a 25-year-old woman presented to a service station with a small wound to her abdomen,” the spokesman said.

A crime scene was declared at the location, with a second crime scene established at a park on Ravizza Drive.

Police allege the injury to the 25-year-old woman followed an altercation between a group of people.

During the altercation, it is alleged the 39-year-old woman approached the 25-year-old woman and stabbed her once.

A 39-year-old woman was taken into custody nearby without incident.

The two women are allegedly known to each other.

The 39-year-old woman was arrested and charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

She was denied police bail and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, October 5.

Police ask anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward.
