‘W*nking gesture’: Three women allegedly stalked along FNQ roads

Disturbing details of how three random women were stalked along Far North roads have been heard in court where the man allegedly responsible applied for bail.

A MAN was allegedly high on drugs when he stalked three random women along Far North roads, including one where he drove beside her making “w*nking gestures”, has been denied bail and deemed a risk to women in the community.

Jordan Lloyd Harrison, 28, was allegedly driving his mother’s car - a blue Toyota Camry - when he pursued the woman along the Captain Cook Highway and up the range to Mareeba on July 14 while making lewd comments and gestures, the Cairns Magistrates Court heard on Friday.

The terrified woman then stopped 100m behind him at traffic lights, before he began reversing backwards towards her.

The court heard 10 minutes later he allegedly followed a woman from a Mareeba gym asking where “Stacey” was.

Several weeks earlier on June 1 he also allegedly followed a third victim from a Cairns dance studio.

The court heard he intended to plead guilty to three counts of unlawful stalking and one count of drug possession.

His defence solicitor Ken Robinson argued for his release on bail, saying he did not know any of the women involved so was not a risk to them, and was on drugs at the time.

“This was not stalking where it was contextualised by any controlling behaviour … it was purely random conduct,” he said.

“Certainly there was an amount of drug use that facilitated this behaviour.”

He said keeping him in custody risked him serving too much time behind bars as there was a chance his eventual sentence would not involve actual custody.

But the court heard Mr Harrison had a six page criminal history and is currently on bail for allegedly threatening to throw a woman down a set of stairs in October last year.

Police prosecutor Sgt Amy Rennie said police opposed his release on bail due to the risk he posed to all women in the community and the chance he may reoffend.

She called the alleged offending “somewhat prolonged” and said there were no bail conditions he could be placed on to lower the risk to other women.

Magistrate Mark Nolan refused bail and adjourned the case until July 21.

Speaking outside court a police spokesman said they were investigating whether there may be other women who could have been a victim of this man’s alleged offending and have called on anyone with information to come forward.
