Two people have been rushed to hospital following a house fire in Kewarra Beach, north of Cairns.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews were called to a fire on Mornington Street in Kewarra Beach at 4.48am with crews on scene by 4.58am.
“When crews arrived there was smoke visible coming from the garage and there were alarms going off in the building,” she said.
“All occupants had evacuated the building.
“We had three crews on scene, one from Smithfield and two from Cairns.
“They had the fire under control by 6.15am and crews are now dampening down the scene to avoid spot fires.”
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson confirms two people were taken to hospital.
“Two stable patients, one suffering smoke inhalation and one with a burn to the arm, were transported to Cairns Hospital following a house fire reported on Mornington Street at 4.52am,” they said.
A fire investigator will attend the scene today to determine the cause of the blaze.
