Three people have been taken to hospital following a car and train crash in Mooroobool on Thursday morning.

Emergency services responded to reports of a car into a cane train on Beatrice Street around 10.30am.

A Queensland Police service spokeswoman confirmed the driver and two passengers were taken to Cairns hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries.

“Traffic was disrupted until about 12.30pm and officers from the Cairns Highway Patrol are continuing investigations into the crash,” the spokeswoman said.

Investigators are appealing to witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dash camera vision of the crash to contact police.

The cane driver and passenger were uninjured.

Earlier, Queensland Police Service Senior Constable Stewart Allen confirmed a car collided with a cane train, injuring three people.

“There were three people in the car, all with minor injuries,” Constable Allen said.

“They’re probably all going to go to hospital with neck pain, just as a precaution.”

Constable Allen confirmed the train driver did not sustain injuries.

“Obviously, we’ve got to wait for dashcam footage to find out what’s gone on, but we’re going to say the car went through a red light,” he said.

Mooroobool resident Kathee Bass and her son Corey said they heard a big bang from their house and went down to investigate.

“It sounded like someone kicked a very hard box,” Mr Bass said.
Ms Bass said it was the first time she had seen an accident between a car and cane train since moving to the area 10 years ago.

“We’ve had a few misses but we’ve been here for 10 years and this is the first actual hit we’ve seen,” Ms Bass said.
“I’ve seen lots of close calls – I suppose they’ll end up putting barriers in now.”

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed all three patients had been taken to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition including a woman in her 60s with neck and chest pain and abrasions, a man in his 70s with back and chest pain and a man in his 40s with minor injuries.
