A court has heard that three teenagers are accused of breaking into a house and threatening the occupant with baseball bats and a machete over the weekend.
Investigating detectives charged 18-year-old Westcourt man Bodie Stuart Hardy, a 19-year-old Edmonton man Kade Travis Dupuy, and a 17-year-old Mt Sheridan boy with one count each of armed robbery in company with violence causing bodily harm.
It is alleged around 10.30am on October 7 the three teens attended a house in Manunda looking for a man and forced entry to the unit.
The Cairns Magistrates Court heard the man was not home at the time, and it is alleged the teens threatened the other occupants with baseball bats and a machete before assaulting a 17-year-old Manoora boy with a baseball bat.
A 17-year-old boy sustained a leg injury during the incident and required medical treatment.
Mr Hardy and Mr Dupuy appeared separately.
Both applied for bail.
Police prosecutor Luke Parrish told the court that Mr Dupuy was the alleged incident’s ringleader and Mr Parrish opposed bail.
Mr Dupuy’s lawyer Bebe Mellick, argued his client was young, had “the full support of his family, a place to stay, full-time employment,” and that he would be required to report three times a week.
While duty lawyer Hayley Fox argued the only evidence against her client Mr Hardy was that his car his sister’s car was allegedly seen at the alleged incident
Acting Magistrate Alan Comans said: “Imprisonment for time served for an offence like this is within range even for a first-time offender” but granted both men bail.
They will return to court on December 1
