The trial of a suspended Far North Queensland police officer charged with rape and indecent dealing has been set down for October 20 this year.
The 56-year-old man has been charged with three counts of rape, with alternate charges of indecent dealing, two counts of indecent dealing with a person of impaired mind, and one count of rape.
When the indictment was presented in the Cairns District Court earlier this year, the man’s lawyers indicated he would be pleading not guilty.
The matter has been listed as trial number one in the October 20 criminal sittings.
The court was told the prosecution case was likely to take seven to eight days.
The man cannot be named to protect the identify of the complainant, who is alleged to be known to him.
When police reported in March 2024 that the man had been charged, it was said that he had been suspended from the Queensland Police Service.
It is alleged the offences occurred while the officer was off duty.
