Commuters travelling between Port Douglas and Cairns are being impacted by delays after a one-car crash on the Captain Cook Highway.
Emergency services were called to a section of the highway between the Mowbray River Bridge and Terise Road at 6am this morning after a driver lost control of a car and crashed on the highway.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman confirmed there was one person in the car.
“We extricated one patient at the scene who was then treated by ambulance services,” the spokeswoman said.
Queensland Ambulance Services confirmed one patient was transported to hospital but did not confirm age or gender of the driver.
“We transported one patient with minor injuries and lacerations to Mossman Hospital in a stable condition,” a spokeswoman said.
Police were also at the scene to provide traffic control with both lanes northbound still closed at 7am following the accident.
“The driver was helped out of the car with a minor cut to their forehead, and we have a tow truck coming in to remove the stricken vehicle,” a QPS spokesman said.
“We expect the road to stay closed for a little while longer.”
The road was opened at 8am with reduced lanes while clearing continued.
