Three young girls will now have to grow up without the loving guidance of a committed family man following the death of Muswellbrook plant mechanic Jaryd Buckley in a freak motorcycle accident.

On Thursday the 32-year-old was travelling in a group of around a dozen riders on a Moto Odyssey Australia tour when he crashed into a wallaby, lost control and hit a tree.

His mate, Brady Stair, in a crowd-funding campaign to raise money for the family said Mr Buckley was the most genuine, down-to-earth, kindest, hard working, easygoing bloke one could know.

As of Sunday morning, more than $52,000 had been raised for Mr Buckley’s family.

“Jaryd was devoted to his family and would often take his two youngest girls camping all over the region,” he wrote.

“His untimely death has left us all scarred but none more so than his family.”

Moto Odyssey owner Charlie Bennison said the riders had visited the Tip and were heading to the Croc Tent after completing the Five Beaches track when the wallaby jumped into the path of the motorcycle.

“He was with a group of mates and everyone was in shock and it just happened so quickly,” he said.

“We performed CPR until help arrived and we did everything we could.

“For us as an operator, we have never had anything like this happen before. We’re totally saddened and lost for words, but our boys and our staff performed really well with CPR and first aid.

“Jaryd was a true gentleman and so sadly leaves behind his wife and three young girls. We are deeply saddened and rocked by this shocking accident.”

The crash happened on Narau Beach Road in a remote corner of the northern peninsula area of Cape York.

A chopper was dispatched but returned to base after paramedics arrived by road and declared Mr Buckley dead at the scene.

Police stated CPR was performed for “an extended period of time” before medical crews arrived.

As of Sunday there had been 23 deaths on the road since the start of the year.

Last year there were 13 reported deaths and 16 in 2020.

Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are continuing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
