An Instagram famous bodybuilder has been sentenced for trafficking steroids after fleeing the country when he was charged, a Cairns court has heard.

Shane Rennard, 54, was charged with one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs and one charge of knowingly or recklessly importing tier 1 goods without approval.

Mr Rennard was originally charged on January 30, 2017 after it was found he had ordered body building steroids from China, some in powder form and some in liquid vials.

The court heard Mr Rennard had the powder pressed into 700 tablets which he then sold for 70c each in Australia.

Among his sales were 150 vials he sold at $45 each over a six-month period to three main customers in the country making an estimated $12,000 from those three customers in 2017.

The enterprise came to an end when a package was stopped with his then wife’s name on it on July 18, 2017.

Shane and his then wife were both charged with trafficking steroids.

Then known as Eve Rennard, his wife faced Cairns Supreme Court on December 6, 2018.

However, by this stage Mr Rennard had left his wife and absconded to New Zealand — leaving her to face the charges alone.

Justice James Henry sentenced the woman to two years jail but gave her immediate parole.

Mr Rennard was eventually arrested again this year and has been in custody since April 16.

The former insta-famous bodybuilder who once had a career in the petroleum industry pleaded guilty to both charges.

Justice Henry sentenced him to three years imprisonment with a parole release date of October 15, 2024 for trafficking in dangerous drugs and a 12 month good behaviour bond for knowingly or recklessly importing tier 1 goods charge without approval.
