A highly anticipated three-day festival has attracted more than 15,000 visitors to the Far North as one vendor prepares to house band members.
Thousands will take to the grounds at Mareeba Rodeo for Savannah in the Round which kicks off Friday and ends Sunday.
Festival organiser James Dein said they were at 80 per cent capacity as people had booked in to see international and major Aussie acts like Brad Paisely, Vanessa Amorosi and Mackenzie Porter.
“We’ve got somewhere between 15,000 to 16,000 throughout the festival, that’s four nights and three days,” he said.
“There are plenty of tickets available still and plenty of room for latecomers who may decide to come; you won’t be turned away at the door.
“There is no doubt that this is the largest event for Savannah, it just shows what can be done in the Far North.”
Local accommodation can attest as they were already seeing the influx in bookings for the major weekend.
Jackaroo Motel, located on Brynes St in Mareeba, will be home to the band members performing at the mega three-day festival, according to manager Carel Daly.
“Sound Australia booked them in 12 months in advance,” she said.
“I’ve been here for three years and they’ve stayed here (every year).”
Estimating about 10,500 people visiting Mareeba for the weekend, Ms Daly said the added numbers piled onto the already heightened demand for accommodation.
“We’ve been booked out every weekend for the past nine or 10 weeks,” she said.
“I’ve been knocking people back a bit.”
Gifted a free weekend ticket by Sound Australia, Ms Daly hoped to close early on Sunday night so her and her husband, Grant Daly, could enjoy the performances.
“Hopefully we’ll leave a sign on the door and divert calls,” she said.
Nearby, Kylie Hoffman, manager at Mareeba Motor Inn, said the town was bustling with visitors.
“There’s lot more caravans and campers going through, lots more people in the shops and driving through,” she said.
“It’s very busy … it’ll be a good weekend.”
