The Queensland Tropic Trails, run under the Queensland Music Festival, is back for its second year, with a strong focus on Indigenous storytelling.
Queensland Music Festival chief executive Daryl Raven said he was excited for the second iteration of Queensland Tropic Trails to return to the Far North, with a focus on highlighting Indigenous arts and culture.
“There’s a richness to the Far North, especially in First Nations music and culture,” Mr Raven said.
He said it was important for Tropic Trails to bring opportunities to showcase First Nations artists, musicians and stories.
“We believe that there’s storytelling from this part of Queensland that is imperative we share with not only locals but also those from interstate and internationally.”
Among the star-studded musical line up are Australian music stars Baker Boy and King Stingray, along with local act R.3.B.
Mr Raven said more than 50,000 people were expected to attend the five Queensland Music Festival – Tropic Trail events for 15 days, running from September to October.
“It’s a great opportunity for visitors to come to the tropical north, not only to see what Cairns and the region has to offer, but to also getting a bit more dispersed into Yarrabah and up into Mareeba,” he said
Festivities will kick off with the Yarrabah Music and Cultural Festival on September 28, followed by Shine on Gimuy, Dream Aloud, Tropics Muster and Savannah in the Round.
Shine on Gimuy cultural producer Lydia Miller said partnering with Queensland Tropic Trails was a great opportunity for local musicians, artists and events to gain exposure.
“Our partnership with Tropic Trails, which reaches all over Queensland, is the ability to showcase First Nations from a perspective that is traditional, right up to contemporary and modern, right through the generations,” Ms Miller said.
Tickets are available on the Queensland Music Trails website.
