A loved father is being remembered for his kindness, generosity and wicked sense of humour after he died at a popular Far North Queensland beach.

Patrick ‘Paddy’ Hillman, 44, was pulled unresponsive from Trinity Beach on Saturday.

A bystander attempted to resuscitate Mr Hillman but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His little sister Shannon Hillman said his family was in shock following the tragedy.

“He was my big brother, he was strong and loving,” she said.

Ms Hillmann said Patrick was the fun uncle who was always making his nieces and nephew laugh.

“He knew how to appreciate small moments, he would obliterate the gingerbread house with them at Christmas,” she said.

Born in Cairns, Mr Hillmann spent most of his life in Kuranda, where he was a well-known and loved member of the community.

Mr Hillmann worked as a tree lopper, his sister said she admired her brother’s enduring courage and kindness, despite the challenges he faced throughout his life.

“He was flawed, as we all are, but kind and courageous. He didn’t give up despite what was thrown at him, he was loved. So loved,” she said.

Describing her brother’s commitment to his family as “unwavering”, Ms Hillmann said Patrick was a devoted son to his father, Reinhardt Hillman.

She said he showed his dedication to family even during difficult times and would visit his father multiple times a week.

“Patrick’s love for our dad was something truly special,” Ms Hillmann said.

“Even when life got tough, he made sure to be there for him. That’s who Patrick was, someone who didn’t turn his back on those he loved.”

Above all, Mr Hillman is being remembered as a devoted father to his 17-year-old son, Tulli, who will turn 18 in June.

“Patrick was incredibly proud of Tulli,” Ms Hillmann said.

“Their bond was something amazing to witness. He was so present in Tulli’s life, guiding him, laughing with him, and supporting him through everything.”

Ms Hillman said her brother would “always be with us”.

“He was always the first to crack a joke, and his laughter was contagious,” she said.

“Even though he is no longer with us, his laughter and his love will never fade.”
