Hot artists announced for Cairns Summer Sounds in February

Three high-profile shows have been revealed for the Cairns Summer Sounds music festival in February 2022.

HOT acts for Cairns Summer Sounds in February are being revealed with Celia Davies of Vera Blue looking forward to returning to the Far North.

“We really love it up there and we are really excited to be coming back,” she said.

She hopes to be able to extend her stay.

“I’d love to do lots of swimming and spend time in the sunshine. I’d love to visit a rainforest, that’s definitely on the bucket list,” she said.

Ms Davies, who will perform at Cairns Performing Arts Centre on February 11, evolved from folk singer and songwriter, influenced by the likes of Simon and Garfunkel and Joni Mitchell, to electronic music and is enjoying success with her latest single Temper.

“When the Vera Blue project was born, we just kind of went for it. I love it, it is really fun,” she said.

“I like tapping into the 80s world with driving pop, and all of the songs I have done are emotionally really raw.

“It’s been a long time since playing a show. I really miss it. I am ready to get out there and have a fun time,” Ms Davies said.

Alternative rock band Ocean Alley will open Cairns Summer Sounds on February 4-5 at CPAC.

And Julia Zemiro, Brian Nankervis and the legendary RocKwiz Orkestra will bring RocKwiz Live to the stage on February 26.

The event is presented by Cairns Regional Council and Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) at CPAC.

Mayor Bob Manning said the calibre of the artists and the respective shows would provide a boost to the city’s economy.

“This year’s series resulted in more than 6000 ticket sales, with over a quarter of those attending coming from outside the Cairns region,” Cr Manning said.

“This newly announced series of shows will entice visitors to our region, providing our local hotels and traders with a boost during our traditionally slow season.

“Staging the shows at CPAC means the weather is not an issue,” he said.

The inaugural Summer Sounds concert series was staged earlier this year, featuring Tones and I, Amy Shark, Bernard Fanning and John Butler.

Assistant Tourism Minister and State MP for Cairns Michael Healy said Cairns Summer Sounds built on the city’s reputation as a destination for entertainment.

“We know when visitors come to Cairns for events, they make the most of their time here with an Indigenous cultural experience and a trip to the Reef, or our world heritage-listed rainforests,” Mr Healy said.

Vera Blue had great success with the single Fingertops and then Hold ahead of debut album Perennial.
