In a reversal of the age-old cliche, daredevil Frank Da Silva has run away from the circus to settle down in Cairns and start a new business.
The Brazilian national rose to fame as a Great Moscow Circus Globe of Death rider and in 2015 he was involved in a nasty crash involving four other motorcyclists attempting a trick never before achieved in Australia.
Now after being in Australia for 10 years, the father of three has chosen a more conventional way to make a living and will launch the Fastfit Windscreen and Tinting business at 115 Spence St.
On Friday at a grand opening party for the business, circus riders will do a Globe of Death demonstration alongside dog performers, circus acts, juggling and family barbecue.
“The circus will always hold a special place in my heart,” he said.
“We play with adrenaline and we play with fire and that is the thing we love about the job, we love the adrenaline and that comes with consequence.
“I travelled with the circus for three years and have three kids now and one on the way.”
Collaborating with the Hudson Circus, who are in town at the moment, the opening celebrations will go ahead on Friday from 9am to 2.30pm.
“I am so excited to bring a little piece of that magic to our grand opening,” he said.
There will be free drinks and windscreen chip repairs on the day.
In a gesture of appreciation and giving back to the Cairns community Mr Da Silva said he would be giving away free vouchers that can be redeemed at other local businesses.
