A FAR North success story, that has grown from one Indian restaurant to opening its fourth outlet in Smithfield, now has plans for national expansion.
Spicy Bite was founded by Daulat Singh Panwar, who started his first Spicy Bite on the Cairns Esplanade in 2017.
Edge Hill, Earlville and 7 Spices Indian Restaurant and Bar on Sheridan St were soon added to the mix and now Spicy Bite has opened in Smithfield Shopping Centre, after loyal customers called for an outlet north of Cairns.
Mandeep Singh with Daulat Singh Panwar will run the Smithfield franchise from a tenancy opposite Woolworths vacated by the Suki poke bowl and more recently Falafellicious closed after operating at the site for a brief period.
Mr Singh Panwar said the popular favourites served from existing outlets such as butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, chicken tikka, lobster madras and Spicy Bite’s signature dish goat curry will be served from the new store, but vegan options and healthier meal options would be new to Smithfield.
“Ever since we opened our restaurant at Esplanade, with a revamped and improved menu there has been a huge demand for good quality authentic Indian food,” Mr Singh Panwar said.
“Its fantastic to be in the Smithfield dining precinct, there are already many fabulous eateries here and we are here to complement the dining precinct to add extra tadka and flavour.
“Many locals especially from the northern beaches had asked for a restaurant in and around Smithfield, and hence we opened this restaurant.
“The response has been fantastic and we had great positive feedback.”
Word has definitely spread about Indian/Aussie fusion dishes like crocodile masala, kangaroo tikka masala.
Leveraging the Cairns success, Spicy Bite plans to launch new restaurants nationwide after fielding strong interest from restaurateurs looking to start their own franchise.
“We have been getting many inquiries but we want to go slow to maintain our standard and quality, but definitely there will be few more soon across Australia,” Mr Singh Panwar said.
The new Spicy Bite is on the hunt for front of house casual staff to complement a total staff of eight at the Smithfield restaurant.
Collectively Spicy Bite employs 60-70 people throughout Cairns.
