Five people are in hospital after numerous Boxing Day road crashes across the region

Five people have been hospitalised after emergency services responded to a series of crashes across Far North Queensland on Boxing Day.

Paramedics and firefighters, were called to the scene of a single car crash on the Captain Cook highway, after it had flipped and landed on its roof with three people inside.

Emergency services were called to the accident in the Kuranda Range just after 6.30pm on December 26.

Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said two patients in their 30s were assessed on scene with one suffering from lacerations.

In addition a child who had been inside the vehicle at the time of the crash was reported to have no injuries.

“A child of about preschool age was also taken with the adults to hospital, all were in a stable condition,” QAS spokeswoman said.

As of Friday morning, December 27, all three patients remain in a stable condition at Cairns Hospital.

In a separate incident a car crashed into a cyclist on Sheridan street in Cairns North just before 9.30pm also on Boxing Day.

First responders attended the scene after the cyclists called for assistance.

The male cyclist in his 20s was assessed by QAS before being taken to hospital in a stable condition, suffering from a shoulder injury.

Additionally another patient was taken to Cairns hospital in a stable condition following an e-scooter incident on Atlantic Close in White Rock on Friday morning, December 27.

“We’ve had one patient taken to Cairns hospital just after 8am, following an electric scooter incident, they are in a stable condition,” QAS spokeswoman said.
