Emergency services called to fire at Cairns CBD backpackers

Emergency crews responded to a fire at a Cairns backpackers on the Esplanade.

Multiple fire crews were called to a fire at a Cairns backpackers on the Esplanade.

A fire broke out at approximately 7.40pm at Caravella Backpackers on the Esplanade on Saturday.

Firefighters donned breathing gear and were seen by witnesses entering the building, where the fire was quickly extinguished.

A number of onlookers gathered outside, where the street was blocked off by emergency services.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said all occupants of the building had been accounted for and the fire on the top floor had been quickly brought under control.

Police and ambulance officers were also in attendance.
