Eli Tavunwo appears in Cairns District Court charged with attempted murder
A man charged with attempted murder following an alleged stabbing in Innisfail in late 2022 appeared in Cairns District Court on Friday.

An Innisfail man facing a charge of attempted murder appeared in Cairns District Court on Friday.
Eli Tavunwo, 33, appeared via videolink from Lotus Glen Correctional Centre, where he has been held since the alleged incident on November 12, 2022.
Defence barrister James Sheridan said a Bislami – the national language of Vanuatu – interpreter would be arranged for Mr Tavunwo.
Judge Josh Trevino KC adjourned the matter for mention on April 8.
He was charged on November 13, 2022, after allegedly stabbing a 23-year-old woman in Innisfail after an alleged altercation.
Police allege around 11pm, he went to the police station with a wound to his hand before being taken to Innisfail Hospital.
A crime scene was established at a nearby address around midnight following an investigation.
Police took Mr Tavunwo to Innisfail Hospital for treatment.
Following investigations, police attended a local address where they declared a crime and the woman was located at a different property in a nearby street with multiple wounds to her upper body.
She was transported to Innisfail Hospital but was later flown to Townsville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
