UPDATE:A GoFundMe campaign raising money for the family of Shanti Wren has almost reached the set goal, in less than 24 hours after it’s creation.

Organised by Soraya Bodman on behalf of the family, the fundraiser has reached $26,000 in the short 18 hours it has been active, with the money set to help support Shanti’s family as they prepare to “send her off in style and celebrate her incredible life.”

SUNDAY: Tributes are flowing through the Cairns region for the victim of a Port Douglas motorcycle crash that claimed a young woman’s life.

Shanti Wren has been remembered by Edge Hill restaurant NOA in a Facebook tribute post to one of their own as they reflect on “a life well lived”.

“Our beautiful Shanti was an absolute ray of sunshine. Her smile, her wit and her outlandish sense of humour were just a small part of her undeniably infectious personality,” they said.

“Without even intending to do so, her presence would manifest a sense of confidence, belief and trust among her peers; unassuming in her ability to bring people together.”

The restaurant said the community has come to support one another in an “outpouring of love” that was genuinely appreciated.

“As we reflect on a life well lived, it is a reminder to us all to hold our loved ones a little tighter, and spread more love and laughter – God only knows the world needs it right now.”

The incident occurred in front of a popular Port Douglas restaurant on Wednesday at around 6pm.

The 31-year-old driver of the motorcycle has been charged following investigations into her death.

The man, from Port Douglas, was bailed to appear in the Mossman Magistrates Court on March 23 to face charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while affected by an intoxicating substance, drink driving and unlicensed driving.

Port Douglas Police station Officer in Charge Damien Meadows said the community had been left “rattled” following the incident.

“She touched a lot of lives and was a very positive person,” he said.

“It has rattled a lot of people.”
