Named: Man charged with murder of 76yo in Mooroobool

A 51-year-old has appeared in court, charged with the murder of a 76-year-old Mooroobool man.

Police detectives investigate the scene where a 76-year-old man was found dead yesterday afternoon.

Cairns detectives have charged David Charles Galipo with murder following the suspicious death of a man at Mooroobool on Saturday.

Police officers were called to a Lotus Place address around 1.40pm where they located the body of a 76-year-old-man.

A short time a later Mr Galipo, 51, who was known to the deceased, was found at a Whitfield residence.

Mr Galipo initially assisted police with their inquiries and he has since been charged with one count of murder (domestic violence offence).

It is unclear at the time of reporting whether the deceased 76-year-old was a resident of the Lotus Place home and the relationship between the two men is yet to be confirmed by police.

Police have declared crime scenes at the two addresses at lotus place and in Whitfield.

A motor vehicle has also been seized as officers continue investigations.

On Sunday morning four police vehicles could be seen in the quiet cul-de-sac with the small house surrounded by police tape.

Police detectives and the Mobile Police Beat were on the scene as investigations continued.

Officers and plain clothes detectives could be seen placing items in brown evidence bags and collecting them on a table under the carport next to the house.

Crime scenes have been declared at the Lotus Place and Whitfield addresses, and a motor vehicle was seized.

Mr Galipo appeared in Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday, December 11 and will re-appear in court on January 15.
