A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man had crashed into a stationary vehicle, and despite his injuries, was in a stable condition.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said there were no reports of “any cars leaving the scene” ruling out a hit and run and confirmed police were not seeking any public assistance.

The man was taken to Cairns Hospital and the health service has been contacted for an update on the patient.

A small section of the dual-lane highway was temporarily blocked, but caused minimal traffic delays.
