Management of a Cairns apartment block have delivered a heartfelt message to tenants following the death of a resident at the complex’s swimming pools last week.

A 37-year-old woman was pulled from one the Cairns One complex’s nine swimming pools on October 25.

Efforts were made to revive the unresponsive woman, however she was declared dead at the scene following the arrival of police and paramedics.

Addressing the death, Cairns One general manager Charlie Torrisi posted a heartfelt message on an in-house social media page.

“ … it’s with great sadness that I express our heartfelt condolences to the family for the loss of their loved one … one of our neighbours and friend to many,” he said.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all that were involved for their help in assisting on that tragic evening.

“This shows how close we all are and how much we all care for one another … again this has touched me very deeply and I can only hope that not only do we continue to grow further together as a community and keep that care we all show.”

Cairns One resident Fabian Di Cola in the immediate aftermath gave a harrowing account of an attempt to save the woman’s life.

“She was in the water, she had already drowned. I went over and did CPR, but I could not save her,” he said.

“Just to give CPR to anyone and knowing they are dead before you even start, it’s pretty s***.”

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said an inquiry had been launched to determine the exact cause of the death and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
