The man charged with murder over the death of a 47-year-old woman in Manunda on Friday has had his matters mentioned in court.
THE man charged with murder over the death of a 47-year-old woman in Manunda on Friday has had his matters mentioned in court.
Brendon Paul Woolla, 47, was originally assisting police with investigations into the death of the woman, who police said he was in an “intimate relationship” with, and was on Saturday charged with murder.
Investigations indicated that the woman was allegedly assaulted and suffered serious head injuries.
He spent the weekend in the Cairns watch house and did not make an application for bail when the matter was mentioned on Monday afternoon.
Lawyer Charlotte Whan said she was seeking an adjournment to the next committal call-over date.
Magistrate Robert Spencer ordered for the prosecution to disclose a brief of evidence by June 1 and listed the matter for mention in the committal call-over hearing on June 8.
Paramedics were called to a Eureka St, Manunda house at 5.30am on Friday but couldn’t save a 47-year-old woman who was pronounced dead at 6.20am.
On Friday, Detective Inspector Kevin Goan said the man and woman were in an “intimate relationship” and described them as itinerants who had been sleeping rough.
“(The woman) was located in the driveway. She was with another person. That person is assisting our investigations,” he said.
A police command centre was set up on Eureka St opposite the Trinity Bay High School.
Det Insp Goan said staff working at the nearby service station had been interviewed by police but more information was needed about the couple’s movements leading up to the death.
