Teenage boy charged after alleged Manunda stolen car crash

A teenage boy has been charged after the allegedly stolen car he was driving crashed into a power pole, causing serious injuries to both him and his passenger.

A teenage boy has been charged after the allegedly stolen car he was driving crashed into a power pole, causing serious injuries to both him and his passenger.

Police will allege the boy was driving a reportedly stolen Isuzu D-Max which collided with a traffic light at the intersection of McCormack and Lennon Streets in Manunda just after 3am.

During the collision a 16-year-old male passenger was flung from the vehicle landing on the road several metres away

The driver, a 16-year-old Earlville boy, and passenger, a 16-year-old White Rock boy, were both transported to Cairns Hospital in a serious but stable conditions.

The passenger reportedly suffered severe injuries to his leg.

Police will allege the Isuzu was allegedly stolen from a Trinity Park address on December 5.

The 16-year-old Earlville boy has since been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence never held licence, and receiving tainted property.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear before Cairns Childrens Court on December 8.

Police are appealing to anyone with relevant information, CCTV or dashcam vision to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing.
