A 32-year-old Westcourt man, alleged to have targeted an elderly patient at a North Cairns health facility, is facing 18 new counts of fraud.
Aaron Stanley Savo now faces a total of 28 charges, including 25 for fraud, two for receiving tainted property and one for failure to appear in accordance with undertaking.
On August 10 Queensland Police said Mr Savo had been arrested for allegedly defrauding a 76-year-old man who was a patient at a Cairns North health facility on July 25.
Police alleged Mr Savo stole and then used the elderly man’s cards to make purchases at several locations across Westcourt.
Mr Savo was charged over seven alleged offences.
Police also put out a statement at the time saying there were investigating “several similar incidents at medical facilities in the region” and were urging the public to keep an eye on the belongings of elderly family members and friends when at these facilities.
Since his arrest in August and subsequent re-arrest this month, police have now charged Mr Savo with the 18 new counts of fraud.
