Tickets have just been released for one of the region’s premier events, which will return this spring with three days of fun and frivolity.
The 66th Cairns Amateurs Carnival theme has been revealed as the “Ultimate Tropical Carnival” as a new committee brings fresh appeal to the historic racing spectacle.
Cairns Amateurs Carnival steering committee chair Jacinta Reddan said while the event had a rich history of racing, it had grown to become so much more for punters and fashionistas alike.
“It will be two days of racing and all of the glamour and high fashion that comes with that including the Gala Ball, the Ladies’ High Tea, the Cocktail Party — it really is the only place to be in September,” she said.
“It’s a really important drawcard as well for the region from a tourism perspective, and it generates a lot of revenue.
“Through tourism, business, fashion, the food, the visitors that come here for the carnival, the race itself, there’s a lot to celebrate.”
The event is expected to draw up to 10,000 guests and put more than $3m into the region’s economy.
The three-day gala kicks off with the Fashion High Tea and Welcome Cocktail Party on Thursday September 12, ahead of two full days of live racing and fashion at Cannon Park.
Highlights include the Cairns Amateurs Gala Ball, a strictly black tie event on the Cairns Esplanade eastern lawns, and the mainstay Fashions on the Field event.

Cairns Amateurs Carnival runs from Thursday 12 to Saturday 14 September.
