State schools will be able to run inter-school sports competitions for indoor and outdoor games, with competitions returning in stages.

Representative sport at a district, regional and state level will also be allowed.

The Cairns Inter School Sport Association’s competitions for those in Years 10-12 will not run, though organisers are exploring some fixtures to allow for Year 12 students to get some time on the field in their final school year.

The Junior School Sport competitions, which feature students from Years 7-9, will run in Terms three and four.

Queensland School Sport have since released their rebooted calendar for the rest of the year, with rugby league, Aussie rules and football the notable omissions.

Cairns will host the QSS Golf Championships in September, an event which will attract 200 young golfers and their families from across the state in a timely injection to Far North Queensland’s coffers as the region recovers from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Peninsula School Sport championships and trials will return next month, with hockey’s 13-19 years championships the first to be held since the shutdown.

Peninsula School Sport will also run netball, basketball, cricket and softball regional championships this year, with state titles to be held in each.
