FACT OR FICTION
Crime show fans would have noticed the cast and crew of hit show Deadloch in Darwin over the week, with episodes set in the Top End to hit screens in season two.
Keen observers, however, would have seen some discrepancies between the normal Darwin setting and that of the fictional Deadloch world.
What appeared to be a newspaper’s front page stuck on an ad hoc CBD community “notice board” on the set, which displayed what may have been mistaken as a typically punny NT News front page headline: “No Ikea where they are” – making reference to the several fictional “missing persons” posters also plastered on the wall.
Except the front page prop was not from the NT News at all, instead from the fictional “NT Times”.
Bushranger also notes the Territory doesn’t even have an Ikea.
And the discrepancies did not stop there.
A Bushie spy saw another poster on the set wall, this time perhaps making reference to the famous Million Dollar Barra competition.
“Big Barra Bashmanza” the poster stated.
But our spy noticed one problem. The fish pictured was actually a salmon.
Incidentally, they were not the only detective series in the NT recently, with NCIS: Sydney also filming two Darwin centric episodes.
FACE TO A NAME
The NTs newly minted Chief Lia Finnochiaro went to her very first national cabinet meeting this week, travelling to Canberra to get to meet the other states and territory’s leaders.
Unfortunately it seems she hasn’t quite made a splash big enough to get her headshot on the list of members of national cabinet on the commonwealth government website.
Let’s hope she makes it on there before one of the territory’s famous politician scandals gets her kicked out of the top job.
KEEPING UP WITH THE NEWS
One candidate got an unexpected endorsement this week following the CLP’s thumping victory in last month’s election. “Did Bill Yan win his seat down in Alice?” convicted murderer Andy Albury asked his lawyer in the Supreme Court on Monday.
“I know him, that’s all,” he said.
“He used to be the super at Alice, a good super too, good man.” A bemused bar table was forced to consult members of the fourth estate in the public gallery to confirm Mr Yan’s decisive win in his seat of Namatjira.
