Brooke Peris will enter elite company later this month as she gears up for her 200th cap as a Hockeyroo.
Since making her debut against Japan in 2013, Peris has been a mainstay of the Hockeyroos, and has represented Australia at two Olympic and Commonwealth Games as well as many other major tournaments in the hockey calendar.
Back in the line-up after a stint on the sidelines due to injury, the Nightcliff Tigers HC alum has been stranded on 197 caps since last year and can’t wait to take to the field where it all begun.
“It’s so exciting to be back,” the 31-year-old said.
“All my milestones I’ve been playing overseas so it’s exciting this milestone will be in Australia, Perth and this is where I debuted.
“So it’s an all-round achievement and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Peris will become just the 26th player in the Hockeyroos 110 year history to reach the double-century mark, becoming the first Territorian to do so.
“I can’t believe it’s gone this fast, 200 hasn’t really sunk in yet,” Peris said.
“It’s been a 10-year journey and I’ve enjoyed every bit of it.”
Hockeyroos coach Katrina Powell was also very excited about Peris’ milestone, and stressed the importance of the midfielder’s inclusion back into the side.
“We’re really looking forward to celebrating her 200th game for the Hockeyroos which is a massive feat,” she said.
“Brooke’s been a stable member of the team for a number of years now and we’re celebrating bringing her experience back into the group.”
Fellow Territorian Jeremy Hayward will also be among the action in Perth, adding to his 219 caps for the Kookaburras when they face India in a five-match test series.
