Police are hunting for a young vandal after a mobile speed camera was attacked in Melbourne’s north.

Footage of the incident was released by Victoria Police this week, depicting the masked man run towards the vehicle, jumping on its roof before launching into a frenzied attack.

He can be seen producing hammer and attempting to smash the vehicle’s windows.

The young man also spray paints the rear window pink in the 30-second incident.

He then produced a hammer and attempted to smash in the vehicle’s windows.

According to a police spokesman, the attack occurred on Wilsons Lane in Sunbury on November 30 last year.

“The offender is perceived to be caucasian, about 187cm tall and was wearing a black face mask, black T-shirt, shorts and brown work boots,” the spokesman said.

“Fortunately the driver of the car, a 43-year-old man, was not injured in the incident.”

Across the vehicle’s multiple cameras, the footage captures the man approach from Carter Rd just after 5pm.

As the operator drives off, he can be seen attempting to continue the attack.

At the start of this year, Victorian speed camera operators walked off the job amid a strike over safety, working conditions and pay.

The industrial action came after a 36-year-old operator was attacked three days before Christmas by four people.
