Virgin Australia announces mammoth New Year’s sale with fares from $49

The major airline has slashed more than 800,000 fares on summer favourites, including Bali, Fiji and Hamilton Island.

Virgin Australia has announced a flash sale on more than 800,000 airfares over the next week.

The sale, dubbed “for Aussies who feel like they never left the office”, includes flights to Aussie favourites Fiji, Bali, Vanuatu, New Zealand, Byron Bay and the Sunshine Coast. Domestic fares start from as low as $49.

For Aussie travellers looking to get away for less, the cheapest one-way economy lite flight departs from Sydney to Ballina (Byron Bay) for just $49, followed by a trip from Melbourne to Launceston that will set travellers back $59.

If you’re looking to go a little further, international flights to Queenstown in New Zealand are the cheapest, with flights from Melbourne to Queenstown starting from $405 and Sydney to Queenstown setting passengers back $435.

Flights to Bali begin from $499 starting from the Gold Coast, while flights to Fiji are starting from $589 from Sydney or Brisbane.

The sales fares are available to book from now until midnight on Monday, January 20 on select dates unless sold out prior.

The flash sale is for select travel dates only between January 14, 2025 and November 30, 2025.

Virgin Australia executive Libby Minogue said there was no better time to start ticking off 2025 travel goals.

“The new year is all about fresh starts and big ambitions, and as Australians head back to work, we want to help Australians achieve their travel dreams in 2025,” Ms Minogue said.

“Travellers are encouraged to act fast to secure these sale fares and kickstart their year of travel for 2025.”
