Toddler drowns in farm dam at Whroo, northern Victoria

A young child has tragically died in a drowning incident on a farm.

A toddler has drowned in a dam in regional Victoria.

The incident happened about 10am at a property near the town of Nagambie in the Whroo area, 120km north of Melbourne, on Sunday.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Ambulance Victoria were called to the incident just after 10am.

“Police will prepare a report for the coroner after a toddler was located unresponsive in a dam at a property in Whroo on 23 March,” a NSW Police spokesman said.

“Sadly, the infant was unable to be revived and died at the scene.”

Last year, 323 people drowned in Australia, a 16 per cent increase on the 10-year average.

About 10 per cent of all drownings occur in lakes and dams, and 20 per cent happened on private property in 2024, data from Royal Life Saving Australia shows.
