Tod Highway crash: 10-year-old boy critically injured in four-wheel drive rollover

Three children and a 35-year-old driver were taken to hospital after a serious crash involving a four-wheel drive occurred on a major highway.

A 10-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a four-wheel drive rolled over on a major highway in South Australia.

Four passengers, including a 35-year-old male driver and three children under 10, were travelling on the Tod Highway on the Eyre Peninsula, near Murdinga, when the incident occurred at about 5pm on Friday.

The 10-year-old boy was airlifted to Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital after sustaining critical injuries.

An eight-year-old boy and six-year-old girl were also flown to an Adelaide hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, a man from Port Lincoln, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The highway remained closed in both directions for several hours, before it was reopened just after 9pm last night.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

In the first 24 days of 2024, there have been 37 crashes on South Australian roads which have led to 42 serious injuries.

State records show there have been three fatal crashes already this year.

In 2023 the state recorded 117 deaths out of 109 fatal crashes and 856 serious injuries from 739 incidents.
