Police catch escaped inmate in Bathurst after daring break

The inmate was caught in West Bathurst after being spotted on a golf course on Monday morning.

A NSW prisoner is back behind bars after police thwarted his short lived break for freedom.

Bosko Smiljamic, 26, allegedly escaped from Bathurst Correctional Centre on Monday.

Police say he was spotted at 7.55am at a golf course that backs on to the prison.

“Officers attached to Chifley Police District were notified and immediately commenced inquiries to locate him,” a police statement read.

The man was located in Bathurst West later on in the day.

He was then arrested and taken to Bathurst Police Station where he was slapped with inmate escape charges and an additional charge of entering an enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.

It is currently not known what offence Smiljamic was serving time for, although records show a man by that name faced Bankstown Local Court on December 17.

The inmate was refused bail and will face his charges at Bathurst Local Court on Monday January 6.
