A Gold Coast woman shot in the back remains in hospital with life-altering injuries, but her family remain hopeful as she continues to fight for her life.
Police allege Linley Anyos, 33, was shot by a man using a sawn-off shotgun in Tallebudgera on January 8.
Police are still investigating whether the shooting was deliberate or an accident, as it occurred inside a parked car.
Ms Anyos’ father, Brian Anyos, said his daughter remained in hospital following the “life-changing incident”.
“Linley suffered catastrophic injuries to her torso, and the two things we can be grateful for is (that) one her spine was missed (and) two her heart was missed, and sadly that’s where the good news ends,” Mr Anyos said in a GoFundMe campaign.
The family are hoping to raise money to help support Ms Anyos’ long recovery as she remains in hospital and beyond.
Mr Anyos said despite the horrific injuries, his daughter was “lucky”.
“Linley has had extensive trauma to her stomach region and without traumatising you with details, trust me when I say Linley is lucky,” Mr Anyos said.
“Lucky the ambulance was only one minute around the corner, lucky there was a good Samaritan who jumped to her aide (sic), lucky a man was able to control the scene to provide Linley with initial care.”
However, Mr Anyos explained she’s got a long and difficult journey ahead of her following the shooting.
“After seven days in an induced coma, we woke Linley, and that is where the real pain struck her, not understanding where she was, why she was there or even what day it was anymore,” he said.
“Linley suffered cardiac arrest on four occasions between being shot and reaching the recovery room.
“Concerns for her brain and mental health are now paramount.
“Linley has endured many hours of surgery to get to where she is today and will now have a life of ongoing surgical interventions.”
Mr Anyos said there was still “some good news”.
“Linley is still with us,” he said.
“But we have no idea how life is going to be moving forward.
“We know we will have massive expenses trying to help Linley be comfortable as she comes home and starts the next stage of her life.
“Thank you and Linley would love the chance to thank you all herself as she begins her recovery.
“Thank you so much in advance.”
Almost $5000 has been donated since the fundraiser was launched.
Queensland Police are still investigating whether the double-barrel shotgun believed to have been involved in the incident was fired deliberately or went off accidentally.
A “person of interest” has been arrested interstate in connection with the shooting of a Gold Coast woman but police confirmed it could be years before he’s questioned about the shooting due to interstate matters.
