Five teenagers – the youngest 13 years old – have been arrested and charged after an alleged carjacking and burglaries in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
Police officers spotted a white Range Rover Discovery at the intersection of Mitford St and Glen Huntly Rd in Elwood about 11pm on Monday that had allegedly been stolen from Elwood on February 8.
The stolen car was allegedly used in several incidents on Monday evening, including an attempted burglary of a service station on Bayswater Rd in Bayswater North about 9.25pm.
“The offenders were disturbed by a staff member and fled,” a police statement read.
The teenagers are accused of stealing cigarettes from two service stations, one on Dorset Rd in Croydon about 9.30pm, the other on Mount Dandenong Rd in Croydon about 9.40pm.
No one was injured during the incidents.
Victoria Police’s air wing and officers on the ground tracked the allegedly stolen vehicle as it drove from Glen Waverley through multiple suburbs.
The teenagers then allegedly dumped the Range Rover at the intersection of Stud Rd and Boronia Rd in Watsonia about 11.15pm.
Police allege the group then stole a Ford Focus on Stud Rd, threatening the driver with a knife and taking off in the car.
The driver was not physically injured.
The teenagers were only stopped when they drove over tyre-deflating spikes deployed on the intersection of Belmore Rd and Elgar Rd in Mont Albert North, dumping the car and fleeing the scene.
Four Dandenong boys aged 13, 14, 15 and 16 and a 15-year-old Moorabbin boy were all arrested nearby.
The 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
All five teenagers have been charged with aggravated carjacking, aggravated burglary, theft and aggravated burglary.
They will face a children’s court on Tuesday.
