The family of a mother who was allegedly killed by a person known to her at a house in Melbourne’s north have paid tribute to the “generous” and “vibrant” mother.
Rachel McKenna, 35, was found dead inside a home on Ormand Rd, Ascot Vale about 4pm on Friday.
Ms McKenna’s family paid tribute to the “devoted mother” saying “her death was an unnecessary tragedy”.
“One we never dreamt would impact our family,” her brother-in-law Ylia Trotter shared on social media.
“Our beloved Rachel was tragically taken from us on Friday.
“She was a big sister, a loved daughter, a doting aunty, and a dear friend to many. Most importantly, she was a completely devoted mother to her 7 year old.
“She was generous, vibrant, loyal, and looked forward to many adventures with her precious son.
“Our darling girl is already so missed, forever leaving a hole in our hearts and lives.”
The family are raising funds to support Ms McKenna’s son and set up a GoFundMe which has raised more than $26,000.
Mr Trotter said more needed to be done to stop family and domestic violence from occurring.
“Something must be done to stop violence against women in this country,” he said.
Police are investigating Ms McKenna’s death, along with a man who died after he was found critically injured on the Princes Freeway at Little River about 44kms west of Melbourne two hours after discovering the mother’s body.
