Driver wearing banana costume wanted by police after man injured in wild burnout mishap

A driver described as wearing a “banana costume” and balaclava is wanted by police over an alleged burnout mishap that left another man hospitalised.

ACT Police is seeking to identify a male involved in an alleged burnout incident in Beard overnight.

A driver described as wearing a “banana costume” and balaclava is wanted by ACT police after an alleged burnout mishap in Canberra left a man hospitalised.

Police were called to Copper Cres in Beard about 9.10pm on Friday following reports a man had been struck by a wheel which had come loose from a vehicle.

It is alleged the driver behind the wheel of the vehicle was doing burnouts before it was sent flying.

The victim, 21, was treated at the scene and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In a statement ACT Police said they wanted to speak to the driver of the vehicle, who is believed to have been wearing a banana costume and a balaclava at the time.

He is understood to have been driving a gold Ford Falcon sedan covered in graffiti.

“Police would also like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have mobile phone footage of the incident, who has not already spoken to police,” an ACT Police spokesman said.
