Cassie Sainsbury was found guilty of smuggling 5.8kg of cocaine out of Colombia inside 18 headphone boxes in April 2017.

She was sentenced to six years imprisonment in Colombia, before being released early from Bogota Prison in 2020.

Ms Sainsbury previously claimed she had been coerced into delivering drugs, and said there was proof she could not access – but in the new interview, the Adelaide woman said “I knew what was in it”.

The former personal trainer met her now-wife, computer technician Tatiana, after being released from prison in Colombia in 2020.

The pair married in March this year. Photos show the happy couple at their beachside ceremony.

Ms Sainsbury wore a long white gown, with her partner dressed in a suit and bow tie.

Last July, Ms Sainsbury said her wife didn’t know her history, but announced that had since changed.

Arriving at Adelaide Airport on Tuesday alongside her wife, Ms Sainsbury was accompanied by journalist Jonica Williams and a cameraman.

Ms Sainsbury’s father has previously spoken out on his anger over his daughter’s arrest, claiming he is still fuming about his family’s reputation being damaged by her drug saga.

“I’ve not spoken to her for five years,” Stuart Sainsbury said.

“I am still pretty angry about it. My family was trashed. We share the same surname. I’ve got an elderly mother to protect.

“I don’t know what to say. You smuggle cocaine. You do your time. I guess she’s done her time.”

Cassie landed back in Australia this week after revealing she would be hopping between Colombia and her home country after setting up a new life overseas.

“I’m excited to go back (to Australia) yes – don’t get me wrong, my life is pretty much here in Colombia, and I’m starting a new English school. I’m married, I’m projecting myself in the best way possible,” she recently said in a post on Instagram.

“We’ll probably end up between Australia and Colombia because obviously her family is here so it will be like, some time here, some time there type of thing.”

Despite spending 2 years, 11 months, and 21 days behind bars, Ms Sainsbury – who has lost weight and speaks with a slight accent, said she “wouldn’t change” the experience of being locked up because it had made her a “stronger person”.

“I can say that I grew as a person, I grew up a lot, I learned a lot about myself, I learned a lot about people, I’ve learned how to analyse people better,” she told 60 Minutes in 2020.

The 7 Spotlight episode will air at 8.40pm tonight on Seven.
