Huge Aussie supermarket chains have pulled a number popular fresh vegetable products from their shelves amid concerns of potential contamination.

A range of Coles spinach and stir fry items have been recalled in northern NSW and Queensland.

The products have been available for sale in Coles supermarkets and Coles Local stores, as well as through Coles online.

The recall is due to potential microbial (STEC) contamination which could cause illness if consumed.

“Food products contaminated with STEC may cause illness if consumed,” the Food Standards Australia watchdog said.

This was following a recall of several Fresh Salad Co Baby Spinach products which were sold in Aldi, as well as similar spinach items sold at Woolworths.

Consumers are being advised to not eat the products and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Those who are concerned about their health should seek medical advice.

Coles Online customers can contact Coles Online Customer Care on 1800 455 400 for a refund or credit.
