Anti-LGBTQI vandals have targeted a beloved South Australian tourist destination, spraying hateful messages under a set of rainbow stairs.

On Friday morning, Aldinga Beach locals took to a community Facebook page to share the distressing scene where vandals spray painted homophobic messages on a ramp down to the beach.

“F**k gays,” the graffiti reads.

It also depicts several images of male genitalia and one that appears to be a woman’s naked body in pink and red spray paint.

Residents in the area were disgusted at the display, graffitied underneath a set of rainbow stairs beloved by the locals between Aldinga Beach and Silver Sands.

“This is NOT what our community is about!” one person commented on the post.

“This makes my stomach turn,” said another.

Mayor of the City of Onkaparinga Moira Were said the graffiti has been reported to the relevant authorities.

“Council was made aware of the graffiti (on Friday) morning and have reported the vandalism to SA Police,” she said.

“We have a graffiti removal crew attending as a priority to ensure it’s removed as soon as possible.

“Hateful messages such as this have no place in our diverse community, and we ask that if anyone has any information regarding this incident, to please contact police.”

Council graffiti removalists at the scene told NCA NewsWire the graffiti was “the worst (they’d) seen in a long time,” and were covering it up with fresh paint.

The workers, dubbed by passers-by as “The A Team” are local volunteers who have covered over 25,000 tags over 50,000 square metres from Sellicks Beach to Aberfoyle Park.

They’re not paid, but said the would “pay the council to let them do it.”
